Cod: The Fish that ate Canberra
Based on a true story and Jaws
by David Doepel & Jim Powell

Synopsis

It’s been a year since Lakes & Gardens officer Ranger Mike became a single parent to his two children, after the tragic drowning of his wife in Lake Burley Griffin. Canberra’s centrepiece and his responsibility.

Canberra is on the eve of its inaugural ‘Summer Lake Festival’ to reopen the lake and declare it ‘Algae Free!’. The people can now enjoy the lake again safely. Or can they…?

Something mysterious is lurking in the murky depths. And now several people have gone missing.

Local legend says that it is Kurrumeruk of the dreamtime, come back to seek vengeance on those who have stopped the flow of the Molonglo and devastated it’s waterways.

Mike believes that it may be a giant ‘Maccullochella peelii peelii’ better know as the Murray Cod, the world’s most aggressive fresh-water predator-fish.

But no one will believe him, least of all the Chief Minister whom he needs to convince to call off the Festival.

When his pleas fall on unconcerned ears all hell breaks loose and his children become next on the Cod’s menu.

Mike is compelled to take matters into his own hands and forced to face his biggest fears, not only a giant man-eating cod but also the cold, dark waters of Lake Burley Griffin itself.
